Podcast: Hilary Lipman Beats Diabetes with Diet

A diagnosis of type II diabetes is scary to anyone. Hilary Lipman wasn't happy about it when she got the news. But she was hardly paralyzed with fear. Instead she jumped into action. She took a class on what to eat. She read a lot of books. She made radical changes in what she eats. She started walking and exercising religiously. Before long, her doctor took her off the pills (glucophage) she had been taking. And now, according to the highly regarded hemoglobin A1c test (now it's 5.3), she essentially does not have diabetes anymore—a finding that is confirmed by her regular finger-prick tests. In addition, she has lost weight, improved her overall health, and improved her outlook.

Podcast: Supplements for Children

Plenty of parents give their children vitamins. But there is so much conflicting information. Which ones should you give? Why do so many of them have so much sugar in them? Why do the other ones taste so foul? What about studies show supplementing vitamin A or beta carotene can encourage certain diseases? Should children get iron? What about DHA?

In this Followhealthlife podcast, Dr. Fuhrman talks about the troubles he had finding supplements for his own children. The ones with the best ingredients tasted so bad his children wouldn't take them. The ones they were willing to take were full of sugar, or were missing important nutrients. Others had too much of things he didn't want his children to have.

Out of frustration, Dr. Fuhrman went to work with a vitamin manufacturer, spending two years developing his own children's vitamins. They're called Pixie-Vites, and the first shipment of them arrives this week.

Search Dr. Fuhrman's Podcasts with Podzinger

Followhealthlife is one of the blogs whose podcasting is now searchable by a new tool called Podzinger. It's essentially an automatic service that transcribes the things Dr. Fuhrman says in the podcast, and then makes them searchable online.

That means that even though the information is recorded like a radio show (in MP3 format) you can still use Podzinger's little search engine to type in what you're looking for and see if that term comes up in the podcast. You can then start listening at the point where your term is said. It's handy for some stuff, although it must be said there are still some kinks to work out from the automatic, computer-based transcriptions. Podcast: Dr. Fuhrman on Getting Children to Eat Well

Every parent wants their child to enjoy the benefits of excellent nutrition.

Many parents have good ideas about which foods their children would ideally eat.
